1985-1996 Hand Laid Fiberglass Stock Clam Shell Style Hood

This hood offers high quality construction and a durable gel coat finish that is ready for prep and paint. We've listed new seals for your hood to assist you in completing the job to "factory specs.

Note: Hand Laid Fiberglass

Please Note:

Upon receipt, all fiberglass body panels, bumpers, spoilers, hoods, fenders etc must be checked for fit. The nature of Vintage Corvettes and perhaps prior repaired Corvettes is that there is normally some fitting, grinding or filling necessary to make new part fit older cars.

This is especially true when replacing a urethane bumper or panel with a fiberglass part. The urethane, by nature, is more flexible and can form itself to compensate for cars which may be slightly out of spec.

The fiberglass part may require more hand fitting and filling to achieve a good fit. Mold lines and small imperfections may be present. This is normal and is not considered a valid reason to return a part.

Also, parts which have been modified or painted by the customer or their body shop are not eligible for return. If you are employing a body or paint shop, please make them aware of this.

All Fiberglass Body Panels will require sanding & priming prior to painting.

How to Adjust and Align 1984-1996 C4 Corvette Clam Shell Hoods

Conditions of a misadjusted hood:

1. When the hood release handle is pulled, one or both sides do not pop up.

Reasons for the hood not popping up:

A. Weak gas struts or gas hood prop.

B. Release cable out of adjustment. There should be about 1/8" gap between the release arm on the receiving latch assembly and the receiving latch plate. To adjust the cable loosen the plastic 9/16" nut on the cable at the latch and turn the sleeve.

C. Hood striker not aligned to receiving latch.

2. When closing the hood only one side or both sides will not latch shut.

Hood closing test:

Hold the hood in the center as much as you can. Holding it about 18" above the closed position, let the hood drop! It will not hurt the hood. This closing test was performed in the factory.

3. Wide gap between the door and the hood. The hood should be flush with the door edge.

Hood installation sequence in the factory:


A. The doors are installed and fit to the body.


B. The hood is then installed and fit to the doors.


C. When the car enters the trim line the front bumper is then fit to the hood.

Hood adjustment procedure:

4. The hood's too high or too low in the rear.

A. Loosen the sticker spring 1 1/2" nut.

B. Using a flat screw driver turn the sticker clockwise to lower the hood and counterclockwise to raise the hood.

C. Re tighten the striker nut and close the hood to check the height.

Note: Whenever you adjust the striker you may have to lengthen or shorten the rubber bumper stop.

The hood will not latch on one or both sides.

A. Open the hood and lower the hood until the hod is resting in the down position, but not latched.

B. Go to the side that won't latch and push down on the hood. You should feel the hood go into the receiving latch opening. If you feel it rubbing on one side, the striker plate assembly needs adjusting.

Adjusting the striker plate:

A. On cars with the rubber bumper stop on the car's body, you will have to loosen, don't remove, the three 13 mm headed bolts holding the bracket. The spring striker is attached to the plate. It is not necessary to loosen it.

B. When the plate bolts are loosened, the plate will move in both directions.

C. Lower the hood and push the hood striker down into the receiving latch; but, don't latch it. With the hood pushed down, place your hand over the edge of the hood and hold the striker plate. Raise the hood and re tighten the 13 mm bolts. The paint marks will show how much the striker was out of position.

D. Do the hood-drop test. The hood should latch properly. You may have to do this to both sides of the hood.

Later model cars have the bumper stop on the hood striker plate. To adjust the stop and striker plate loosen the 15 mm nut holding the bumper stud to the striker plate.

If the front bumper gap is too close, too low, too high, or too wide, it is a bumper adjustment not a hood adjustment.

If the hood on an 1988 or later does not pop up, or is heavy when opening, check for weak gas-filled hood prop.

The gas struts the 1984 through early 1988 Corvettes used can be installed and the hood will open a lot easier. If the 1984 through early 1988 car's hood is heavy while opening, the gas struts need replacing.

Answer:  Freight pricing is based on multiple factors such as the shipment's freight class, density, route, and even how the items are packaged.  We contact a freight carrier and obtain shipping costs. We then add this to you order.

Question:  What do I or the freight company need to know about delivery?

Answer: You should know that your address (receiving location) needs to be adequate to accommodate a semi-truck.

 

Money Saving TIP: Typically we encourage you to provide a commercial address for delivery. Commercial locations/facilities can accommodate a large truck delivery and rates are often much less expensive.

 

Question:  What happens when I place an order that requires truck freight?

Answer: After your order is placed and we contact the freight company for rates, we call you and advise the specific details of the shipment.

Questions: What are the meanings of classifications?

Answer: Each item is classified within specific carrier guidelines. These guidelines are the class of an item and the related costs, density and inherent risks of transporting such an item. All items shipped by MAM have been evaluated as to the most economical fright classification prior to shipping.

Question: How will this item be unloaded?

Answer: The carrier delivers to your destination and it is available to you at the “end of their trailer”.  It is your responsibility to be able to get it off the truck,

Question: What about heavy items like motors, transmissions and complete front ends?

Answer: If you are going to need a truck with a lift gate, we need to know that in advance of getting a quote for freight costs. If your items are to be delivered to a location with a freight dock, we also need to know that information.

 

Additional Ordering and Truck Freight Information Needed:

Your order will not be process until we receive YOUR approval and additional information for the freight delivery.  If we do not get your approval after 7 days, your order will be cancelled.

Make sure to provide a current telephone number. Shipping carrier will usually contact you directly to arrange a delivery date and time.

Someone should be present for delivery to sign for the shipment.

Check to make sure the shipment arrives in good condition and note any damage on the shipping receipt before the driver leaves.
