1972-1974 Bus Freeway Flyer IRS Transaxle

Update your 1972-1974 VW Bus with the Freeway Flyer IRS Transaxle for a smooth and comfortable ride thanks to the shifting forks, gear assemblies, gear carrier bushings and hub assemblies being replaced or remachined. 1st through 4th gear sliders have been remachined to OEM specs and the clutch release cross shaft, spring retainers, and bushings have all been inspected and replaced as necessary.

The stock gear ratio leaves you with 3500 rpm at 65 mph. The Freeway Flyer Transaxle's gear ratio ups this to 75mph at the same 3500rpm providing increased freeway cruising speeds and better performance from your Bus. This transaxle provides a higher gear ratio of 4:57 compared to the 5:38 stock ratio.

The case for this remanufactured transaxle has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected and is fully tested for leaks and easy shifting once assembled. Each one receives all new gaskets and oil seals. Covered by a 12 Month, 12,000 manufacturer warranty.

NOTE: Please specify your VW's engine size (1700cc, 1800cc, or 2000cc) in the Order Comments section at checkout when ordering.

NOTE: This transaxle can be slightly noisier than your stock transaxle in 4th gear due to the higher gear ratio. You may also notice a tight shift between 3rd and 4th gear for the first 500-1,000 miles. Once this initial break-in period has passed, these factors should improve.
