1966-1977 Frame Head Bottom Base Repair Panel - OEM Number(s) (113-701-311-B)

Reinforce Your VW’s Structural Safety with New Sheet Metal

The bottom side of the frame head is one of the most commonly rusted—and most critically overlooked—areas on classic air-cooled VWs. Even restored Beetles and Ghias can hide serious corrosion under clean floors and shiny paint. If this panel is compromised, your entire front suspension is at risk.

Our Frame Head Bottom Base Repair Panel offers a strong foundation for restoration. Made to factory shape and dimensions, it replaces the original lower half of the frame head with a clean, weldable surface. Perfect for reinforcing weakened frame heads or starting from scratch on a full front end rebuild.

Fits:
1966–1977 Beetle (Standard models)
1966–1974 Karmann Ghia
1973–1974 VW Thing

Features
• Replaces rusted or damaged lower frame head section
• Supports safe reattachment of front beam and suspension points
• Weld-on design for permanent structural repair
• Proper shape and contour for air-cooled VW chassis
• Stamped from quality steel; may require minor prep to fit specific bodies

Dimensions and Weight
• Panel dimensions: 31" x 16" x 1.5"
• Shipping weight: 7.4 lb

Tech Notes
• VW Part #: 113-701-311-B
• Klokkerholm #: 9512004

When replacing this panel, thoroughly clean the interior of the frame head. It’s not uncommon to find nests, debris, or corrosion inside the tunnel. A clean surface ensures strong, safe welds and long-term durability.

Body Panels and Sheet Metal – What to Expect

When you order sheet metal for your classic VW, expect some prep work. Vintage Volkswagens often require minor trimming, grinding, or fitting to install new panels properly—especially if your car has seen prior repairs. This is normal and does not constitute a defect.

Some parts arrive with a black e-coat, while others now feature a clear protective surface coating to resist rust. Both coatings must be removed prior to final prep and paint. These are not primers. Scratches or coating rub-throughs may occur in shipping and are cosmetic only—not signs of damage. Modified or painted items cannot be returned.
