1950-1979 Beetle–Thing Engine Bay Firewall Forward Seal Rubber 111813741G - OEM Number(s) (111-813-741-G)

This reproduction firewall seal closes the gap between your air-cooled VW's engine compartment and firewall, preventing the hot-air recirculation that leads to overheating.

This reproduction Volkswagen engine compartment to firewall seal is a high-quality replacement for the deteriorated original on your air-cooled VW. It fits into the metal channel on the body and runs over the bellhousing of the transaxle, sealing the cooling tin and preventing hot air from re-entering the engine compartment.

This is a critical cooling part, not a cosmetic one: if part or all of this seal is missing or broken, your engine will overheat, and all the engine tin must be in place for proper cooling as well. It can only be installed with the engine out of the car, so any time the engine is out, replacing this seal is cheap insurance against overheating.

Fits the Following Volkswagen Models:

  • 1950–1977 VW Beetle, Standard
  • 1971–1979 VW Beetle, Super
  • 1952–1971 VW Bus
  • 1956–1974 VW Karmann Ghia
  • 1973–1974 VW Thing (Type 181)

Features / Benefits:

  • Reproduction engine compartment to firewall seal
  • Seals the firewall to the front engine tin
  • Prevents hot air from recirculating into the engine compartment
  • Promotes proper airflow and optimal engine cooling
  • Installs into the factory metal channel over the bellhousing
  • Must be installed with the engine out of the car
  • VW reference part number: 111813741G

Material / Finish: Rubber seal.

Dimensions:

  • Overall length: 920 mm (approx. 36.2 in)
  • Profile: 38 mm tall × 15 mm wide

Installation Notes: Install with the engine out of the car, fitting the seal into the metal channel over the bellhousing. A spray-on silicone dry lubricant makes it easier to slide into place. If a small bit of seal hangs down on either side of the channel after installation, trim the excess or tuck it out of the way so it does not interfere with engine installation.

Because Details Matter: Air-cooled engines live and die by airflow, and this seal is one of the small parts that quietly keeps cooling air doing its job instead of recirculating hot air back over the engine. Replacing it while the engine is out is exactly the kind of cheap, easy step that prevents an expensive overheating problem down the road.
