Mid America Motorworks Technical Tip
MAM Part Number: 619050

Mid America Motorworks provides restoration and appearance products for Corvette enthusiasts. Use the following instructions as a general guide for installing the hood blanket emblem decal on your 2005-2013 C6 Corvette.

Hood Blanket Emblem Decal Installation Procedure

Important Before Beginning

  • Read all instructions carefully before application.
  • Installation is easier with two people.
  • Perform installation indoors or in a clean, controlled environment whenever possible.
  • A heat gun on low setting or hair dryer is recommended for proper vinyl bonding and contouring.

Step 1 – Remove Hood Pad

It is recommended that the hood pad be removed from the vehicle for easier decal application.

  1. Carefully pry upward on the plastic retaining clips using a forked trim tool between the hood pad and clip.
  2. Remove hood pad from vehicle.

Note:

If any retaining clips break during removal, replacements are commonly available at auto body supply or parts stores. Verify correct clip size before replacement.

Step 2 – Clean Hood Pad Surface

If the hood pad is excessively dirty or oily:

  1. Dry brush the pad material around the logo impression area using a soft wheel brush.
  2. Mild soap and water may also be used if necessary.
  3. Allow sufficient drying time before decal installation.

Step 3 – Position Hood Pad

Place the hood pad on a clean work surface with:

  • The C6 logo area closest to you
  • Hood pad facing upside down (reversed orientation)

Step 4 – Prepare Decal for Installation

The decal is supplied pre-cut as a single unit on the backing paper.

Helpful Tips:

  • Wash and rinse hands thoroughly before handling decal.
  • An X-Acto knife or similar precision knife is helpful for lifting decal edges.
  • Two-person installation is strongly recommended when transferring the decal from backing paper to hood pad.

Step 5 – Stabilize Decal

A piece of clear application tape is located at the center of the logo to stabilize the vinyl material during transfer to the hood pad.

Step 6 – Begin Decal Transfer

  1. Slowly peel back the decal beginning at the right corner of the flag tip toward the application tape.
  2. Lightly reposition the decal back onto the backing paper.
  3. Repeat process on the left side of the flag and “V” section.

This process helps simplify lifting the entire flag decal section one section at a time.

Step 7 – Apply Decal to Hood Pad

  1. Beginning at the right flag tip, carefully lift the decal using fingers or an X-Acto knife.
  2. Position decal onto the right flag tip area of the hood pad.
  3. Slowly work from right to left while lightly pressing the outer decal edges into place.

Important:

  • Leave the flag centers alone initially.
  • After the outer edges are positioned and pressed down, begin pressing the center sections into place including:
    • Left side checkers
    • Right side bowtie and fleur sections
  1. Remove the clear application tape once decal positioning is complete.

Step 8 – Heat and Final Bonding

The key to proper installation is controlled heat application.

  1. Use a heat gun on LOW setting or a hair dryer on HOT setting.
  2. Apply heat in short bursts while pressing decal firmly with fingers.
  3. Continue heating and pressing until vinyl contours and bonds fully to the hood pad texture.

Note:

Several heating cycles may be required for complete adhesion.

Warning:

Do not overheat the vinyl or hood pad material. Excessive heat may melt, distort, or damage components.

Final Inspection

  • Verify all decal edges are fully adhered.
  • Ensure decal contours properly into hood pad texture.
  • Confirm no lifting or trapped air remains.
  • Reinstall hood pad using original or replacement retaining clips.
  • Recheck decal adhesion after several heat cycles from normal engine operation.
