A fully functioning knock sensor is essential for maximum performance. It "listens" for engine knock often due to poor quality fuel. When it detects a "spark knock", it sends a signal to the ECM and an ignition timing correction is made to burn the fuel more efficently. With the aid of the Corvette Knock Sensor Tool and a digital voltmeter, you can easily test the knock sensor for peak performance. Instructions included.
Tech Note: As the Knock Sensor is really a simple form of microphone, it can't tell the exact source of a rythmic knocking sound. Loose exhaust shields and other equipment can often vibrate in sync with the engine and have been known to fool the knock sensor and make diagnosis dificult.
