How to Remove and Reinstall C4 Corvette Coupe Removable Targa Roof Panel Side Weatherstrip Seals

Removal Procedure:

1. Remove the roof panel and place it top down on a smooth surface covered with a soft, thick cloth.

2. Starting on the left side remove the rear screw (Item # 4). Lift outward on the weatherstrip seal (Item # 5) while cutting the adhesive with either of the small adhesive cutter/scrapers recommended.

3. After the weatherstrip seal is removed, scrap out any remaining adhesive left in the weatherstrip seal retainer (Item # 2) using the bent awl or the cutter/scrapers.

4. Do the same procedure on the right side of the roof panel.

Installation of New Seals Procedure:

1. Apply a bead of weatherstrip seal adhesive 3/8 inch thickness down the center of the weatherstrip seal retainer (Item # 2) and at each end where the weatherstrip seal will be.

2. Starting at the rear of the roof panel edge, push the new weatherstrip seal into the metal retainer, working forward to the front edge.

3. Do this on both sides.

4. Reinstall the weatherstrip seal end screw on each side of the roof panel (Item # 4).

5. Use the bent awl tool from the kit to seat the seal into the retainer. Hint: Coat the tool with some silicone dielectric grease so it will slide on the weatherstrip seal without damaging it. With the point of the awl pointing back toward you, push the awl away from you along the seal.

Notice: Do not puncture or damage the surface of the new weateherstrip seal. Any damage will cause the surface of the new seal to peel off later.

6. Before reinstalling the roof panel, using a soft cloth, rub some silicone dielectric grease on the new weatherstrip seals. This will prevent future cracking, and it will ensure a better seal against the glass.

7. Allow about one hour for the adhesive to cure before reinstalling the roof panel.
