Mid America Motorworks Technical Tip
MAM Part Number: 604609
OE Reference Numbers: 14071841, 14071842

Mid America Motorworks provides restoration and maintenance parts for Corvette enthusiasts. Use the following instructions as a general guide for installing the lower inner side window seals on your 1984-1989 C4 Corvette.

Lower Inner Side Window Seal Installation Procedure

Step 1

Disconnect the battery before beginning installation.

Step 2

Remove the door panel.

Helpful Removal Tips by Year Group:

  • 1984-1989: Remove all visible screws. Do not forget the hidden screws located in the door pull area.
  • 1990-1996: Light lens on door escutcheon hides two screws. Remove them also. Dime-size colored caps at the bottom edge must be removed. Gently pry the lens off.
  • Carefully disconnect all wiring harnesses before removing the panel completely.

Step 3

Drill out the factory rivets at both ends of the seal.

Important:
Wrap the drill bit with a piece of hose or electrical tape, exposing only the tip of the bit. This helps prevent accidental damage to the door during drilling.

Step 4

Remove the original seal by pressing the strip downward and then lifting upward to release the retaining clips. Some manipulation may be required during removal.

Step 5

Install the new seal by aligning the retaining clips with the door panel holes and pressing the seal into place.

  • Verify all clips are fully seated.
  • Ensure the rubber lip rests properly on the outside edge of the door.
  • Confirm the seal is straight and properly aligned before final fastening.
  • Adjust as necessary.

Step 6

Secure the seal in place using enclosed rivets.

Step 7

Reconnect all wiring harnesses, reconnect the battery, and test window operation before reinstalling the door panel.
