1969-1977 Automatic Transmission Steering Column Lock Cable
If you are having trouble removing the ignition key on your automatic transmission 1969-1977 Corvette, you need to put the shifter in the "Park" position and turn the car off, then check the Transmission Lock Cable and the lever it operates on the steering column.
This Cable runs from the shifter lever on the transmission up to a lever on the steering column on the engine side of the firewall. First, make sure the cable and lever are moving without any binding. Sometimes a simple lubrication will get this system functioning, but if not, your Cable may be stretched and a new cable may be needed.
