1968-1982 C3 Headlight Actuator Rod Rubber Boot Seal

Restore reliable Corvette headlight operation with an actuator rod boot seal that keeps contaminants out and supports smooth movement of the headlight door linkage.

The Corvette headlight actuator rod boot seal protects the actuator rod area from dirt, moisture, and road debris that can contribute to binding, wear, and inconsistent headlight door operation. When the boot is torn or missing, contamination can reach moving components and shorten service life.

This direct-fit replacement boot seal helps restore proper protection and supports correct headlight function on 1968–1982 C3 models.

Mid America Motorworks provides restoration and maintenance parts for Corvette enthusiasts. Use the following instructions as a general guide for installing the headlight actuator rod rubber boot seal on your 1968-1982 C3 Corvette.

Headlight Actuator Rod Rubber Boot Seal Installation Procedure

Step 1 – Install Boot onto Main Shaft

Pull the rubber dust boot over the threaded actuator shaft so the boot is fully extended.

Step 2 – Position Boot onto Flange

Stretch the lower skirt portion of the boot over the metal flange located at the base of the shaft.

Step 3 – Seat Boot Lip

Using a small pocket screwdriver or similar non-sharp tool, carefully tuck the lip of the dust boot into the flange crevice until fully seated.

Step 4 – Verify Proper Installation

Push the threaded main shaft inward completely, then pull it back outward to full extension to confirm proper boot operation.

If necessary, reposition or retuck the boot lip to ensure correct seating.

Important Note:

The dust boot does not create or hold vacuum pressure. Its purpose is to help protect the actuator assembly from dirt and debris contamination.

Step 5 – Reinstall Vacuum Canister

Reinstall the vacuum canister assembly onto the Corvette headlight actuator system.
