Installation Instructions

1968–1972 C3 Corvette Electric Wiper Door Conversion Kit

Thank you for choosing Mid America Motorworks! This upgrade kit converts your Corvette’s vacuum-operated wiper door system to a modern, electric motor system. You’ll enjoy reliable, consistent panel operation without chasing vacuum leaks. Follow the steps below carefully for a smooth installation.

Tools Needed

  • (2) ½" open end wrenches

  • (1) 3/8" open end wrench – 1968 only

  • ¼" drive ratchet

  • 3" x ¼" drive extension

  • 3/8" x ¼" drive socket

  • Side cutter pliers

  • 6" slip joint pliers

  • 6" channel lock pliers

Installation Steps

  1. Raise the hood. Secure with a ¼" bolt and nut through the hood prop track and slide to prevent accidental closing. Ensure ignition is OFF.

  2. Remove vacuum hoses from the wiper cover panel actuator assembly. Tuck them behind the RH fender panel.

  3. Disconnect vacuum supply. Remove the yellow-striped hose from the canister tee near the LH fender storage tank. Cap with supplied vinyl push-on cap.

  4. Remove vacuum relay hoses. On the RH fender skirt, disconnect the 1/8" white-striped hose from the relay assembly. Plug with the supplied rivet.

  5. Remove dust boot from actuator assembly. Loosen nut #8 from nut-adjusting #9.

  6. Remove actuator assembly. Take off nuts, bolts, washers, and bushings securing actuator and valve. Rotate out, remove nut #8, and save for reuse.

  7. Remove bracket. Take out reinforcement bracket nuts on firewall, save for reuse, and remove bracket.

  8. Install saved nut. Thread nut #8 onto the new bent actuator rod provided in kit.

  9. Install nut-adjuster. Thread nut-adjuster (#9) fully onto the firewall stud.

  10. Insert new actuator rod through firewall hole.

  11. Install new motor assembly. Mount electric motor to firewall studs where the vacuum bracket was removed. Replace any shims. Align semicircle cutout with firewall hole. Tighten moderately (not overtight). See Picture 1.

  12. Confirm panel position. Ensure wiper panel is in “down” position. Do not adjust manual wheel — the motor is factory-set.

  13. Attach ball joint rod. Connect to motor lever with washers and hairpin clip. See Picture 2.

  14. Tighten jam nut. Hold nut-adjuster while snugging jam nut.

  15. Fine-tune adjustment. Loosen jam nut, use manual wheel to raise panel, then readjust until panel moves fully up. Retighten jam nut.

  16. Set stud position. Rotate mushroom stud clockwise until switch button bottoms out on bracket metal. Tighten jam nut. The panel should travel full up and full down. See Picture 3.

Electric Hookups

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Always work safely around 50-year-old wiring.

  2. Connect ground. Attach black wire to alternator ground stud.

  3. Connect power. Splice red wire into yellow washer pump wire using provided connector. Run wires neatly.

  4. Connect trigger. Locate 3-cavity connector on wiper motor. Splice brown wire into light blue wire using provided connector. See Picture 4.

Test the System

  • Key “ON,” switch to “LOW”: panel lifts, wipers activate.

  • Switch to “HIGH”: wipers speed up.

  • Switch to “OFF”: wipers park, panel lowers after ~3 seconds.

This kit uses a 1997–2004 Corvette actuator module, which shuts down the motor instantly if obstructed, and times out after 5 seconds to protect the system — a safety feature other kits don’t offer.

Important Note for Servicing the Wiper Blades and Arms

This procedure lets you move the wiper panel up and stop the motor to service blades and arms. Keep this guide with your owner’s manual.

  1. Key “ON,” wiper switch “LOW,” panel rises.

  2. Turn manual override switch (under dash) to “OFF” to stop wipers with panel up.

  3. Unplug new wiper panel motor connector from module (red & black wires, 4-cavity). Turn key “OFF.”

You can leave the panel unplugged for extended service time.

To return to normal:

  1. Ensure ignition “OFF,” wiper switch “OFF,” override switch “OFF.”

  2. Reconnect wiper panel motor to module.

  3. Key “ON,” override “ON,” wiper switch “OFF.” Panel should return to “park.”
