Corvette Storage Options: Preparing for Hibernation

For most automotive enthusiasts, the change of seasons signals the end of shows, cruise-ins and road trips for another year. For many Corvette owners, it also signals the beginning of storage season. Mid America Motorworks gives you a few ideas on the best options to keep your Corvette out of the way as you count down for Spring.

Your storage options are only limited by your space and needs. Just like customizing your car, storage solutions are available for garages, car ports and even extended outdoor storage.

Lifts

If you have the space and clearance in your garage, a 4-Post Lift is the ideal solution to Winter storage. Lifts are a great way to keep your Corvette out of the path of sleds, shovels and other snow equipment. They also allow you to maximize the space you have by parking your daily driver under the Corvette. Residential Lifts are designed with safety in mind, giving you all the benefits of a shop lift with the convenience of at-home storage.

Auto Dolly Storage System

If your Corvette will spend the Winter in an area of your garage that you do occasionally need to access, an Auto Dolly Storage System is a great idea. Simply jack your Corvette up and set the wheels down into the dollies. With each dolly in place a single person can position a car into the tightest spot on a hard smooth surface with ease. When your Corvette is not in storage, an Auto Dolly Storage Rack can be mounted on the wall to store the dollies out of the way.

Hydraulic Positioning Jacks

If you prefer to jack up your Corvette and roll it around in one step, consider a set of Hydraulic Positioning Jacks. You can jack up with wheel with the dolly, eliminating the need for a jack. Once the car is secured on the jacks, you can move it around the garage to tuck it into a corner for the next few months. A Storage Rack is available for the Hydraulic Positioning Jacks; however, it is a rolling rack compared to one that hangs on the wall.

Flat Stoppers

If you have no intention of moving your Corvette during storage, use Flat Stoppers to keep your tires from getting a flat spot. Cars that sit for extended periods of time without ever moving put immense strain on the tires. Flat Stoppers are designed to distribute the car's weight more evenly in a way that keeps the tires in good shape – literally – for next season.

Multi-Purpose Ramps

If you plan on storing your Corvette in a stationary location, but need access underneath the car for Winter projects, Portable Pit Stop Ramps are a great option. Simply lay the multi-purpose ramp down and drive into place. The Ramps are designed for maximum portability and stability, eliminating the need for unstable jack stands. Each Portable Pit Stop Ramp is made up of interlocking sections, so the ramp will never slide, scoot or scratch your floors.

Jack Pads

If you don't have the jack positioned correctly, with the right support, you could damage the lower body panels of your C5 to C7 Corvette. Luckily, there are ways to eliminate the chance of damage. First, select the proper lift point on your Corvette. Then, be sure to use jack pads. There are a few options available for jack pads. Some snap in and can be left in the car at all times, so you're prepared when you need a jack. Others should be removed when not in use and can be used on multiple Corvettes. They fit the frame rail and secure in place with a simple quarter turn.

Jack Insert

Jack Inserts are designed to stay with the jack. Simply remove your floor jack's cradle and slide this Insert in its place. Then locate your Corvette's jacking points in the frame, insert the tip and jack it up. Your Corvette is ready for Flat Stoppers, Dollies or another method of long-term storage.

Lift Points

When jacking your car, be sure to locate the correct Lift Points on the frame. This will ensure that your Corvette is jacked up correctly and will avoid damage.

Keep in mind that C4 Corvettes have a different frame than C5 and C6 Corvettes. GM Certified World Class Technician Paul Koerner explains the difference in this video.

Garage Carpet & Rugs

Garage Parking Carpets are the perfect way to add a touch of personality to your Corvette storage. With colorful designs and patterns that look like the open road, Parking Carpets are a great option for storage. Garage Floor Mats and Rugs also serve an important purpose, protecting your garage floor from slush, chemicals or other drips and leaks that can occur over the long winter.

Car Covers

While you might think of Car Covers as short-term options, there are plenty of covers that can – and will – protect your Corvette from Old Man Winter. Most Outdoor Car Covers feature a protective outer material that creates a barrier between your paint and damaging weather. The interior of the car cover is made with a soft material that cushions your Corvette from the possible bump or snowball fight.

Car Capsules take coverage to a new level, with evaporative storage that maintains continuous airflow with a high-pressure fan. The result is a temperature and moisture-controlled enclosure where your Corvette waits for spring. The best part is: there are both indoor and outdoor versions.
