MID AMERICA MOTORWORKS COMMEMORATES THE CORVETTE'S
50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A ‘STAR SPANGLED' FUNFEST CELEBRATION
EFFINGHAM, IL – Mid America Motorworks, the world's leading supplier of parts and
accessories for vintage and modern Corvettes, brought 6,800 Corvettes and 30,000
spectators to the 9th annual Corvette Funfest 2002, September 21-22.
The ‘Star Spangled' event theme constituted a special celebration of the
Corvette's 50th Anniversary in June 2003, with the elite ‘Funfest 50' display of
one of every Corvette model year, a fireworks extravaganza to highlight the
Saturday evening festivities and one-of-a-kind Corvettes on display in the MY
Garage Museum/R&D Center, including the oldest production Corvette in existence
- 1953 VIN #3, and the “1953 C5” – a unique fusion of the very first and most
recent production year body Motorworks.
Mid America Motorworks also helped to raise nearly $300,000 for the National
Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY, through a fundraiser, organized to benefit
the non-profit facility. The winner of 2003 Corvette VIN #1953 (purchased by Mid
America), was announced live via the internet from Bowling Green on Saturday
evening - Mr. Ken Arbeeny of Scarsdale, New York.
The two-day event also included the customary, celebrity-judged Fun Display Car
Show, in which 51 winners were presented with beautiful awards both days. A
special People's Choice Award also raised thousands of dollars to benefit Mid
America's ‘Caring & Sharing' program for foster children within a five county
radius. Funfest goers cast $1 votes for their favorite Corvettes on Winner's
Row, and the top 5 winners each day have been invited back to Funfest 2003
(September 20-21) for a special exhibit in the company's MY Garage facility.
Funfest '02 was also highlighted by free technical seminars, over 28 specially
invited suppliers on display and autograph sessions with such Corvette notables as
Dave McLellan (retired Corvette Chief Engineer) and author/editorial director of
Corvette Quarterly, Jerry Burton.
