Fellow Funfest Fans,
The Corvettes for Chad committee would like to thank each of you who
helped make the raffle a success! The raffle was held for Lance
Corporal Chad Watson who was injured in an IED explosion last
November 29th. In the explosion Chad’s right leg was amputated above
the knee. Other injuries included a broken left ankle and crushed
left heel, burns, and numerous shrapnel wounds, including some in
the right eye. After several surgeries Chad is now recovering at the
Malone House, which is next to Walter Reed. The Malone House is used
by servicemen who are outpatients still receiving care at Walter
Reed. As of now it looks as though Chad may be discharged later this
year or early 2008.
The raffle made $6030. The money raised will go towards expenses the
military does not pay that Chad and his family have incurred since
the explosion. Their first month’s phone bill alone was over $800.
Mid America Motorworks, Bodine Environmental Services (Dick and Mike
Bodine), Sliderz Bar and Grille and South Shores Auto Services paid
for each of the prizes won in the raffle. Because of their
generosity we were able to give Chad the entire $6030. A big thank
you also goes out to Dynagraphics/Fast impressions in Decatur for
printing the tickets and providing the banner to us at no cost.
The winners for the prizes were Gary Harrison from Germantown,
Wisconsin, who won the leather jacket, Rick Geissler from Spring
Grove, Illinois, who won the Corvette tent, and Johnny Horter from
Ludington, Michigan, who won the Corvette chairs and cooler. Mike
Bodine also donated $200 to buy a leather Corvette jacket for Chad
to get him on the road to his first Corvette. Again with Mid America
Motorworks’ generosity they made that happen also.
Be sure to tell all your Corvette friends how Mike and his team at
Mid America Motorworks go all out each and every year to make
Funfest the “best” Corvette gathering ever! Until Funfest 2008, lots
of Corvette love!
Happy “Vettin”
