The distributor cap is a crucial component of your Corvette's ignition system. Its primary function is to distribute high-voltage electricity from the ignition coil to the spark plugs in the correct firing order, igniting the air-fuel mixture in the engine's cylinders at the correct moment.
Inside the distributor cap, there is a rotor that spins as the engine runs. As the rotor spins, it passes by each contact point inside the cap, which is connected to a spark plug wire. When the rotor passes a contact point, electricity from the ignition coil is routed to the corresponding spark plug wire.
