1978 was the first year Corvette buyers were offered the option to upgrade the base radial tires to a performance radial, the 255/60R15 Goodyear Radial GT RPO code QBS. Through 1977, Corvette tire RPOs were cosmetic with options for white letters, white stripes or the red & gold lines seen on Mid Year Corvettes. However, all the tires lacked performance matched design. The introduction of the P-Series radials established a high performance tire capable of matching handling performance for the first time in Corvette's history. The 255/60R15 Goodyear Radial GT came standard on all 1978 Pace Cars and was optional equipment on the 1978 Silver Anniversary model as well as all 1979 Corvettes.
