 | 1968 brought the debut of the third generation (C3) Corvette. This all new Corvette again featured hidden headlights but with an all new vacuum operated control system. The system was comprised of electrical and vacuum switches, connected with rubber hose, to control the vacuum supply to the headlights and wiper doors. Being comprised of a lot of rubber hose and vacuum diaphragms, this system becomes increasingly troublesome with age. Hoses crack and diaphragms rupture causing weak vacuum supply to the headlights and wiper door, in addition to general mechanical wear of bearings and bushings.
