To prove my point, leave a nicely polished copper kettle sitting out in your kitchen for a month or two and watch it lose its shine.The same applies to stranded, automotive grade, copper wire. Corrosion causes electrical resistance. Electrical resistance causes heat and other electrical anomalies.

If your Corvette's wiring has become brittle and cracked, it is now in the next stage of deterioration, and is in need of immediate replacement.
